Pa-Auk Latvia

The project was born 8 years ago and has been in progress since, recently receiving blessing from Venerable U Acinna Pa-Auk Tawya Sayadaw during his visit in July 2009.

PA-AUK LATVIA is conceived with the goal of providing groups and individuals with an environment conducive to meditation and quiet contemplation or study. The Centre will offer facilities and accompanying support to Theravada tradition.

It is located in the Rujena district, 150 km away from Riga, the capital of Latvia. The territory is a part of the North Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve. Situated on 1,000 ha the Centre is a complex of several buildings surrounded by large tracts of forest in the east and by the Ruja river in the west.

At the moment the project is in its early stage. The facilities, such as dwellings, meditation hall, dining hall etc., will be developed in the next few years. In the meantime some outdoor living facilities will be arranged for the period of retreats.
